English Language Challenges

In the actual world there are a lot of languages but there is only one that it's considered "universal lenguage" if you are thinking in the english you are right, and we are going to use it a lot now and even in the future, a lot of papers are writted in english by scientific comunities and if you don't know the lenguage you are going to be late with the new discoveries in the area that you work, that is the reason why we are here, the experience making blogs and investigating about travel to other countries in the university has been gratifing specially by the knowledge I've adquired about the english.

There is a lot of things to learn about the english new words that are used specifically in papers that we are going to hear since here until we where old and leave the work so I think that the better way to learn these words than reading and using them, in our case in a blog. A blog that can be customized in the way the you like the most and where you cand add the images that you want. The use of the tecnology to learn english it's more interesting and funnier than the normal clases with a book repeating phrases over and over again.

In my opinion my english lacks in the listening and I expect to improve it whatching videos of people talking, movies in english, also tv series with out subtitles by now this is how I use my english and talking with my uncle who lives in US, of course the way to improve the listening is listening more usually the english of diferent countries but specially the Britain and US english.

Changes To Your Study Programme

When I was a child I used to think that the university will be easy, the subjects, study, making friends, everything but I couldn't be more wrong,is very difficult study and dedicate to sports at the same time also with a lot of exams in a few weeks, but I don't think that the way to teach has changed through the years because I feel that the olny change in the university are the teachers even there are some teachers that have a lot of time teaching in the university, there is a real change mede in this year and is about the subjects to study in the career many of advanced subject were replaced by anothers by example the anatomy for the cell biology, and I think this not change the way to teach but it helps us to know about more specific subjects.

With six to seven subjects in the week the work load is vey heavy and in the days of exams you can't see a lot of people walking in the gardens or close to the classroom, usually the most of the students are in the library studying or playing in they computers, tablets, cellphones even someones are eating and talking about their lives,one way or another many of the students prefer places like library and private classrooms to study everything to pass the exams to finish the semester and have the most free time posible to go out the city in holidays many to the beach others to the south or the north but the technology is what helps us to study, in home whit the laptop by example, or anywhere taking you documents in the cellphone.

Addictions: drugs of abuse

There's a lot of durgs to abuse of someones more common than others but in the end the problem is the same in each case, the addiction. If I say I've never tried one of these drugs I'll be lying, there's a few drugs I've tried and it was not a good experience, by example... the cigarette, It had a very discusting taste and it made me cough a lot, also I know as sportsman I shouldn't smoke or my body can be seriusly affected but there's always a time to try everything, even the alcohol which is one of the most drug of abuse comsumed in Chile I've tried it but the taste was not good at all I just drink a little when I'm in a party with my friends.

I don't really know if is good abuse of any drug but in little dose someones makes people feel good and in diferent states of mood as cofee that makes people fell more energetic and active, the cigarette makes people feel relaxed and they smoke in tension moments but I've noticed that people that smokes use to feel stresed and a lot of anxiety very often.

 That is the case of my family everyone smokes and I'm the only one that doesn't like any kind of drugs of abuse like suggar, alcohol, tobacco, marihuana or any other drug, not only because I'm sportman it's because I know that any drug can represent a damage to the healthy, the cigarette literaly destroy you lung, the alcohol you kidney, appart from the silliness, light-headness, blurred vision even slurred speech, and it's a little part of the many problems that drugs can do to our body beeing aware of these problems and educate the people about it can save a lot of persons from addictions.

Post Graduate Studies

In the present everyone can get a job but no necesary in what you want, there is were the studies come in and helps to choose a specific area to work in, personally I think that now a days the pharmaceutical regulation are not as good as they could be and is a very important area many people don't know how to use drugs and this can even kill them, I would like to enter in the administration and fix these prblems the only way to make a change is from inside in the institution and I like the chemistry a lot also the healthy of the population so I'm focused principally in this area. 

In the future I would like to get a Ms degree or a MBA degree that allows me to enter in this area of administration and regulation of the drugs nationaly. But the only problem is that I'm not sure at all if is the area that I wnat to be specialised, there are many of options after the profesional degree of pharmacy that maybe in a nearby future I could change my opinion about what area I like the most, but there is something that I'm sure of and is the career I've chose, the subjects and the friends I made make me think I've chosen wisely my career and in the future I would like to keep studying chemistry,  the use, producion and regulations of the legal drugs in this same university.

Digressing about music: Songs and Films

The most of the people enjoy to listen to music, specially while they are doing another things like reading a book or writtin even studing in my case I like to do everythig listening to music but not a specific kind of music, I enjoy every kind of music they're so different in many ways that I can't say " I hate reggae" or funk or any other kind of music because in my opinion there are no bad music just music.

But two or three are my favourites the first one is the rock, in few words is the music that I enjoy the most the guitar, drums, piano, and vocals everythig mixed in a great song and talent from the members of the band it's just amazing in this stile of music my favourite band is Metallica since I met my stepbrother we began to listen they music together and that's a lot of time and I enjoy alot they music. Specially one of they first members Lars Ulrich famous by his weird faces while playing the drum and for being the best drummer in the 80's and 90's.

Another stile of music that I enjoy alot is the electro and there a lot of Dj that makes good music but I like one in special, called Savant.
Even today the people don't know how to classify his music because he mix a lot of tipes of the electro music and makes every song different and the most weird thing is that he took the name of the Savant disease as name of Dj.

I used to listen pop music when I was 7 but today in days I still like the pop music even every kind of music. There is one song I always remember and is from the movie Spirit Stallion Of The Cimarron.

Our Amazing Human Body... The Stomach

Have you ever asked why it's so beautiful to eat pasta after a long time in the laboratory or class?  I've already made this question to myself and the answer is that a full stomach makes a happy heart. There is nothing more pleasant that go to grandma's house and eat a big plate of tasty food, obviously to the ones who likes to eat a lot... just like me and it's because the sport makes you want to eat as many food as you stomach can contain. But some people eats because it just feels great and there is when some diseases appear.

But it's real purpose is not make us feel pleasured while we're eating, it's a part of the digestive system and inside the stomach happens the chemical part of the breakdown of the food to be absorbed after by the intestine.

Usually in the society fat persons are considered as ugly and this make many woman to have an operation and shrink the stomach making them eat a little a long the day making them to look skinny and fit but it also can be a problem when we talk about nutrition.

What is good to know is that you can keep you stomach healthy eating different kind of food and be sure to eat controlled.

A Country You Would Like To Visit

Since I have memory my passion was the water, I used to spend all the day in the swimming pool playing whit my friends and family It's what today in days inspire me to keep swimming in tournaments the good moments that I share in the water with other people so the first place

 I would like to visit is Rio de Janeiro, I've never been to Brazil so I would like to visit it a long time

 I think that is a beutiful country and it has a very comfortable weather, also it has a lot of swimmingpools and I would like to live there by a few months just to enjoy the lanscape and go to the biggest swimming pools there, even visit all the beaches in the country so if I had the enough money, I would fly by all the coast of Brazil and enjoy the trip. If all the social and economical problem where solved it could be one of the greatest countries in the world with active tourism in all the country, beautiful places, a lot of swimming pools, tasty food all these things make Brazil one of the most visited countries in the world in holidays.

From The Invisible To The Visible World And Back

Every thing that we see in the whole day are compound of something specially of invisible particles pack called atoms, and now a days the technology is developing smallsize robots called nanobot to use them in diferent things like in living things or in the nature, by example:

CNTs: There is alot of nanotubves made of different materials but the most used is the Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) and the reason of why is so used is because is one of the most resistant material made in nanotechnology and one uf the uses that is have is to be used as conductive material, better than copper and any others metals, even it's used to make race bikes because it's a harder and lighter material than any metal this is what makes it so expensive but usefull in many ways. Maybe in a future many of the materias in the laboratory will be made of CNTs and making the research easyer and faster.

I've choose them because I think that is the future of the technology using CNTs instead metals, and in many others ways that can be used, I learned a lot of the CNTs and the things that are compounded of it, even materials to sportmans like bikes, tennis raquets and that is just the begining.

My Blogging Experience

We're always learning new things of everything, Chemistry, Physics, Math and more, but do someone really cares about what we learn of english? actually is very important learn this amazing language because is a international language, have you ever asked you self if is really necesary to learn it? the answer is, of course it is. In the scientific communities the language to share discoveries is the english, in a future what we've learned in this subject eg making blogs, hearing conversations of people from diferent countries and talk to each other about diferent issues,  will help us to be opened to the knowledge of persons in diferent countries.

I have laughed so much with my friends writing blogs commenting them and sharing our personal experiences, my skills have increased thank to the teacher that suggest new words and how to put them in a context, in a future I see the blogs like the same they are today because we always talk abut science and things like that, I hope that in a future we could talk about planets, astronomy and space I would like so much to know your opinion about this very interesting issue.

The Most Enjoyable Subject Thus Far

My favorite subjec is by far Chemistry I just can't explain why it likes to me so much but I think that is the funniest subject to study in the university, talk about atoms, chemical propeties of substances and the constant learning abut what are the things compounded is the main reason to be interested in the subject. 

In my class there are about 50 students and all the class are theorical, and we are learning about the coordination compounds. In my opinion that allways are something new to learn in the chemistry is what makes it very interesting and one of my favorite subjects.

Person or Expert You Admire

All the time you can hear the people talking about beeing another person but, is that really good? In my opinion is better to say "I would like to do the same things that another person can do", admire and learn from some person in the past or in the present can help you to improve you abilities.

Born in 1743 Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier was a Chemist, Biologist and a French economist who got married with Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze. He began to study in 1754 and he standed out because he was very good in the natural sciences, after that he hold several public offices, including state director of works for the manufacture of gunpowder in 1776, he studied the composition of the water and he rejected the theory of the Phlogiston. Is called the father of the modern Chemistry he studied the oxidation of the substances and hes's most knowed theory "the theory of mass conservation".

I think that he is a very good example to follow because in his life he made a lot of advances in the science, advances that we are using today to resolve problems related with the Chemistry. And sure, if he could made such advances with less technology, Why not one of us?

About Pets, Love and Friendship

I don't remember to have a pet beacuse since I have memory I live with my mom and she never liked the animals on the house, so I can't explain it but I love animals specially the dogs, for me they are the man's best friend  and they are the best company for anyone.

The most of my "pets" was breed in my grandfather's home in San Antonio and I couldn't see them for long time, but there was an exeption a cat called Fenix (maybe a ridiculous name but I was a child) it was so beautiful with a grey color and black lines it used to run free in the garden and we used to play for hours runing throught the garden and climbing rocks, it was a tiny cat but so agile that had to learn to climb following the cat to play more time.

Sure it was a comfortable experience but the pet that I loved the most was a dog called Mona that lived in my father's house and it was part of the Boxer race and it was considered as one more of the family, lovely and beautiful of a brown color, white in the chest an black lines, with the time Mona turned in my best friend(animal of course), we run and play all the day long, it used to sleep close to me and in the night Mona watched to take care of me. One day ( in the father's day) we foud Mona in the sofa with  the eyes closed and it wasn't breathing the whole family cryed by months because it leave us. It was so sad I also cryed for it of course I lost a friend and the sadness filled me.

Now a days I don't have a pet, I think that I love pets because I learn a lot of the animals, the loyalty, the love, and the friendship is like no other. The only problem is the short space in the department that don't let me have a pet but if I could I won't think it twice! 

A Photograph You Like

In our favorite place is were each of us would like to be all the time, mine one is El Valle del Elqui a beautiful place in the north of Chile close to La Serena and the mountains, It's called too as "the place were the sun always shine" and because of that the people use the fields to cultivate grapes, the last time I was there was two years ago visiting my uncle in the vacations, in the road, close to my uncle's house I take out my cell phone and I took this photograph. 

Maybe it's not the most beautiful place in the world but I like it because when I see this photo it remembers me the peaceful place that El Valle del Elqui is. In the photograph a big hill can be seen and a cultivated field with grapes which are used to make wine, also it shows a characteristic thing of the place the blue cloudless sky and a very shining sun, and in the night the sky keeps cloudless and the show begins, the stars and the galaxy can be seen clearly shining at moonlight. By far my favorite photograph of the vacations in such a beautiful place because it's difficult to take a photograph in the night without lights.

About Books And Films

I don't use to read so much but there's a book that makes my day when I read it and his name is At The Mountains Of Madness, My teacher at high school made me read it, but as many of the book that the school tell us to read, we don't really read them so this was the special case. All begins with an expedition to the artic and passing the time the group arrive to giant iceberg, they found the corpse of a ancient and unknow specie that whit the time makes that every one become slowly crazy, the firts group died and in a second expedition the truth is discovered and more things happen after that but it's a long story in a short book, it's a very interesting story, unnatural creatures and civilisations, a mix between horror and thrill, I recomend it to any one who likes this kind of book, and what makes it better is that this book was writed by one of the greatest horror writers H.P.Lovecraft.

Sure it's my favourite book but I personally prefer the movies, they make you use all your senses to understand the story, the details and more is what makes me prefer them, One in special Kill Bill the two tittles are for my the greatest moves of Quentin Tarantino and the best movies ever made.

It's about a professional retired killer that takes revenge of they partners that tryed to kill her and all the story is about how she get to the leader of the gang called Bill.

I personally use to recomend it but the movie has a lot of scenes whit exeed blood and fight whit samurai swords, I use to whatch it whit my half-brother so we talk about it all the days it's very funny to have a common taste of the movie and to make it better the movie has a very great casting specially for Luci Liu  in the first movie.

Your Favourite Piece Of Technology

My favourite piece of technology is the computer because when I was a child my parents gifted me one, it was not as useful as now but at the moment to do a homework I use Encarta (app to search information) and the homework become easier, even I use it to play so many games, as I was a only child in the family it was my way to have fun.

Now in these days the computer become in one of the most useful technology pieces in the world, the most of the people have one and it can be used for a long range of things, personally I use it from study Maths, Chemystry also I like to play on-line games in the computer when I'm not training or searching information on websites and that is the reason why i like it, it helps me to relax and pass he time faster. I don't usually use the computer beacuse training, university and study from the notebooks is what I do the most of the time so I use it when I'm really bored or when there is not exams in the week but with the english class I use it often to write in my blog.

I think that the life would be really dificult whitout a computer in home, because it's an essencial tool to search information or have fun but the cellphones in these days are like a small computers and we only are using the computers to be more comfortable at the moment to search information or when the cell phone is whitout charge.

Why did you choose your career?

A few years ago, when I was a child, I always wanted to be veterinary because I feel a conection with cats, dogs, turtles and any kind of animal, but in school I became a science lover.

I liked so much to do experiments and the science was teaching me new things every year. Then, a very dificult decision come with the high school, Teacher, Medic, Veterinary, Engineer, I love all the careers but I had to choose only one of them, the things changed when my teacher of chemistry told me that in the future I could be a great scienceman if I pick a science career, so I tought that the best decision was Pharmacy, Chemistry, Aliments Engineer or Medic, all of these careers liked to me and a few days before the PSU I choose Pharmacy.

At the moment my experience at the university has been very great, my class mates are very polyte with me, make new friends is always a good experience and university is the perfect place to meet new persons. The teachers are very diferent to the high school teachers, they are more serious and the tests are more complicated. It's difficult but that is the new challenge that the uniersity represent to become at the end a great professional.The career has a large range of jobs but in my opinion the best is the drugstore job, beeing the manager in a drugstore is where I see myself in the futute but it's a long way to go.

Getting to know each other...

Hi, My name is Cristobal Carvajal, i'm the first born son of my parents. I'm a student of Pharmacy in the Universidad de Chile and this is my first year at the Fac. of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
I'm 18 years old, i born in Santiago de Chile in Independencia, my parents are from diferents places of Chile, my mother Elsa is from San antonio (a little town close to the ocean in the middle of the country) and my father is from El Valle del Elqui wich is in the north of Chile and close to the mountains, some people call it the place of the eternal sun because the sun shines all the year,even is very weird if it rains or snow, how ever when this happen it becomes a very beautiful place.
A few moths ago i become a High level sportist in swimming and take it with the studies it's really difficult, always with my family and friend giving me the strenght to keep trying and never give up, what i always say is "Easy or hard,life is boring without challenges".
It's really boring to be the only son by 18 years, the most of the brother can grow together and share experiences having a good time, since i become a big brother i feel the responsability of take cake of my little sister (as any brother has to) and help her with any problem that she could have, grow alone was not good but be the gide and as a hero to my sister is even better.
